OVTTGTBE Chapter 26
by VolareOpening Fire
Liu Yucheng approached Bai Yao and casually placed his breakfast on his own desk.
“Why are you making a fuss as soon as I wake up?”
He deliberately lowered his voice, but Bai Yao still heard him clearly: “Are you hungry? I bought the one you used to eat…”
“Shut up!!”
Bai Yao was so embarrassed that his whole face turned red. “I… I just saw a big rat scurrying onto your bed! I was just trying to help you check it out of kindness, don’t overthink it!”
His hand tugged at the bed curtain, a little flustered. While making up the story, Bai Yao gestured to the size of the rat. He’d seen these things many times when he was in high school. Though there might be some differences between the north and south, they should be roughly the same.
Liu Yucheng raised an eyebrow, his tone carrying a hint of teasing: “That big? Are you sure?”
“Of course!”
Bai Yao confidently raised his chin. “I definitely didn’t see wrong! You should take down all your bed curtains and take your bedding to the dry cleaner outside to wash! And you might as well send your brain to be washed too–thinking so much so easily, it must be because your thoughts are too dirty.”
“What are you guys arguing about so early in the morning?”
Yan Hao came out of the bathroom after washing his face and saw the breakfast on Liu Yucheng’s desk. “Liu, thanks for bringing breakfast. I’ll transfer the money to you later.”
“Huh? Breakfast is here?”
Li Jinyang also came out of the bathroom, not even bothering to wipe the water off his face, just grabbing two tissues and roughly scrubbing his face. “How much? I’ll transfer it to you too.”
Bai Yao: “???”
So this breakfast wasn’t specifically for him?
This guy has no classes this morning, and he got up so early just to bring breakfast for them? Is Liu Yucheng such a saint?!
“Oh, Yao-ge, you were in the shower last night when we were talking about this… Yan Hao asked him to bring breakfast, so I just asked him to bring two extra portions… one for you and one for me.”
Li Jinyang quickly said.
“Thanks.”
Bai Yao waved his hand and said coldly: “I don’t want to eat it. You can have both portions.”
Hmph, who wants this kind of ‘central air conditioner’ breakfast.
Li Jinyang was certainly happy to have an extra portion of food for breakfast; he was about to thank Bai Yao when he inadvertently caught Liu Yucheng’s eye.
Hmm… maybe it was just his imagination, this guy didn’t seem to have any change in expression, but Li Jinyang still sensed his displeasure.
Come to think of it, it’s understandable that Yao-ge doesn’t want to eat what he bought, who told him to treat Yao-ge like that last semester!
When they arrived at the classroom, Tao Lin and Zhang Yifang had already helped save seats. The usual four-person group that always attended class on time now had an extra Yan Hao.
Because of an activity he participated in last semester, Bai Yao knew Yan Hao earlier than the others, so Yan Hao sat next to Bai Yao.
Guessing that Yan Hao probably didn’t recognize the Peach Milk WeChat profile picture, Bai Yao didn’t try to avoid him when sending messages.
Bai Yao: I have something really unlucky to tell you, our school re-arranged the dorms this semester, and I was assigned to the same dorm as my ex.
Bai Yao didn’t reply to the previous messages and didn’t bother to explain, who cares.
Peach Milk: …
Peach Milk: Stay away from him, you already have me.
Bai Yao: It’s good that I haven’t fought with him yet, I get angry as soon as I see him.
Peach Milk: Getting angry means you still care about him.
Peach Milk: But you also get angry with me, which means you care about me too.
Peach Milk: So… who are you angrier with?
Bai Yao directly ignored this unreasonable question.
Although a winter break had passed, Bai Yao’s anger about the snowball fight that day had mostly subsided; but since the two of them were “so destined” to be assigned to the same dorm, Bai Yao decided to follow the will of heaven and formally go to war with Liu Yucheng, to torment him to death.
Who told him to always do such inhuman things.
Bai Yao, who had two classes in a row on the first morning of school, finally made it to noon and went to the cafeteria with his stomach growling.
When he saw Liu Yucheng standing at the entrance of the cafeteria, Bai Yao hadn’t even reacted yet, but Li Jinyang immediately raised his hand and vowed: “Yao-ge, I really didn’t invite him.”
“Neither did we.” Zhang Yifang and Tao Lin also saw the man’s slender figure and quickly said.
Instead of getting angry, Bai Yao patted Li Jinyang and said with a smile: “What’s wrong? I’m not going to bully a classmate, we’re all roommates, let’s ask him to join us.”
Hearing this, Li Jinyang was a little confused; Yan Hao also found it a little unbelievable, but after two seconds he said: “I thought you two really became enemies, it’s great that you’re willing to get along with him harmoniously, should I call him over?”
“Call him.” Bai Yao nodded.
He knew that Liu Yucheng would appear here now, certainly not by their invitation.
Because before class ended just now, he sent a message to Peach Milk.
Bai Yao: I’m so hungry, class is finally over, I’m going to the cafeteria to eat and grab some.
Peach Milk: With your ex?
Bai Yao: With me? He doesn’t have the guts.
Now, Liu Yucheng appeared at the entrance of the cafeteria on time, just as Bai Yao had imagined.
Liu Yucheng responded and walked towards them, Bai Yao deliberately asked him: “What are you doing here, waiting for someone?”
Liu Yucheng had already thought of his excuse: “I’ve been thinking about what to eat for lunch.”
Bai Yao didn’t say anything more, quickly passed Liu Yucheng, and entered the cafeteria.
Li Jinyang and the others went to line up, Bai Yao saw Liu Yucheng standing not far from him, holding a phone and not lining up, so he asked: “What are you doing? There won’t be any food left soon.”
“No.” Liu Yucheng said lightly, “Then I’ll go?”
Bai Yao randomly found the longest line and stood in it, then pointed to a six-person table in the corner, “Go, Tao Tao has already saved us a spot, see it?”
“Yeah.”
Seeing him walk away with peace of mind, Bai Yao immediately left the line, unlocked his phone, and made a voice call to Zhang Yifang, giving him some instructions.
About fifteen minutes later, Liu Yucheng came to the six-person table that Tao Lin had saved, carrying a tray.
Bai Yao wasn’t there.
“Liu, over here, over here.” Yan Hao quickly waved his hand, “We don’t have your contact information, I was worried you wouldn’t be able to find the table.”
“Yeah.”
After Liu Yucheng sat down, he pretended to look at his phone, waiting for more than ten minutes, but Bai Yao still didn’t come.
However, when he noticed that Zhang Yifang, Li Jinyang, and Tao Lin looked calm and didn’t intend to contact Bai Yao, he realized that he seemed to have been tricked by Bai Yao.
“Liu, since you’re here, sit for a while longer. Eat slowly, let’s have a good chat, have a good old chinwag.”
Li Jinyang suddenly looked at him with a grin, “Yao-ge isn’t here, but we’re roommates from now on, we have to get along well! Come on, brothers, let me offer you a cup of milk tea instead of wine!”
His voice was loud and sudden, causing several tables around them to look over.
Liu Yucheng was instantly embarrassed, cautiously clenching his fists where they couldn’t see.
So, was all of this planned by Bai Yao? Tricking him into appearing in this kind of situation that he’s worst at, and then leaving him alone here…
Has Bai Yao already discovered the secret of Peach Milk??
Liu Yucheng broke out in a cold sweat, he was so nervous that he couldn’t eat anything, he just wanted to escape immediately.
But what if this wasn’t planned by Bai Yao in advance, if he escaped directly now, who knows what Li Jinyang and those three would say to Bai Yao when they saw him later?
Maybe they would encourage Bai Yao to never want to talk to him again…
He couldn’t leave, and the only person he was familiar with, Bai Yao, was missing from the scene, which made Liu Yucheng feel a little panicked. He had to suppress his emotions and sit there motionless, not saying a word.
This feeling was like living a year in a day.
“You guys are almost done eating?”
Having finally endured until everyone finished eating, Liu Yucheng was about to flee the cafeteria at all costs when a familiar young voice forcibly controlled him at his seat again.
“I’m back, I was really starving to death.”
Bai Yao held up two bags of fried chicken that he bought from outside, “This was bought for me by that person just now, I’ll share it with you.”
Since Yan Hao didn’t know his orientation, Bai Yao chose to refer to the senior he made up out of thin air as “that person”. He had lined up for so long to buy these two bags of fried chicken that his stomach was almost starving through; on the way back, Bai Yao couldn’t help but devour two chicken legs.
Zhang Yifang reacted quickly, raising his eyebrows and interjected: “Tsk, Yao-ge, you have a partner, that’s not very good, is it? I feel like that person is pursuing you!”
“Ah? Who’s pursuing you?”
Yan Hao looked confused and then looked around for a while, “I didn’t see it? By the way, Bai Yao, where did you go just now?”
“When you went to line up to buy food just now, someone abducted Yao-ge.” Tao Lin propped his head with one hand and mysteriously added: “After being away from the organization for so long, Yao-ge, you didn’t do anything to betray your partner, did you?”
“I didn’t.”
Bai Yao said innocently: “I like my partner the most, no matter who comes, I won’t change my mind.”
After hearing their conversation, Liu Yucheng only felt his scalp tingle.
He quickly shoveled down the cold lunch in front of him, grabbed his backpack, and left the cafeteria.
…
Liu Yucheng didn’t return to the dorm for the entire afternoon.
Liu Yucheng’s face had changed, and it was so obvious that even Bai Yao could see it. Thinking that he had won this round, Bai Yao slept especially soundly during his afternoon nap.
In the afternoon, Bai Yao went to the lab to prepare for his lab class.
After this lab class, he could rest for a while–he had no classes tomorrow morning. Now that the semester had just started, there was no homework pressure, and he could play very late tonight.
He found his seat number according to the alphabetical order of names A-Z on the form at the door, which was seat number 5 in the third row.
The lab wasn’t particularly big, as soon as Bai Yao entered the door, he instantly felt like the sky was falling.
Before registering for the class, Bai Yao had already inquired with the senior students, this lab class required dividing into groups, usually 2 to 3 people per group, the specific situation depended on whether the seat was at a large table or a small table.
His seat number 5 in the third row was at a small table, and this semester his group had only two people.
The student in seat number 6 next to his in the third row had already arrived, wearing a black hoodie. He was wearing a hat and lying on the table, the standard student sleeping position, and his style was different from the students around him who were browsing their phones or chatting.
Bai Yao put his bag on the table and blurted out: “Damn it, why are you everywhere?!”
The student in seat number 6 didn’t raise his head or reply, just slightly raised his slender fingers to indicate that he was awake and that he had heard Bai Yao’s complaint.
Li Jinyang followed closely behind into the classroom, put down his bag, walked around to Bai Yao’s side, patted him, and said in a low voice: “Forget it, Yao-ge, I heard his grades were pretty awesome last semester, the credits are more important.”
“My grades aren’t worse than his.”
Bai Yao was even more dissatisfied, “No, I want to change seats! A lab partner, this is for a whole semester.”
“But living in the same dorm, isn’t that also for a whole semester?”
Li Jinyang muttered in a low voice, and continued: “I heard the teaching assistant for this class is particularly difficult to talk to, likes to make things difficult for freshmen… it’s basically impossible to change seats.”
“Besides, you two are just cooperating on an experiment, just put up with it, it’s not like you’re marrying him.”
Hearing the word marriage, Bai Yao instantly turned red from his ears to his neck, and was so guilty that he didn’t know how to respond.
At this moment, Liu Yucheng raised his head.
He rubbed his sleepy eyes and said lazily: “Li Jinyang is right. I already talked to the teaching assistant before you came. I said I wanted to change seats, and the teaching assistant didn’t agree.”
