Chapter 24

Chi Nan watched the mother and daughter walk towards him. One was dressed simply and efficiently, while the other little girl looked very mischievous.

“This is my sister, Fu Shi, and my niece, Wen Ci.”

Fu Chaoyun first introduced his sister and niece to Chi Nan, and then introduced Chi Nan to them.

    “My little friend, Chi Nan.”

Fu Chaoyun said this very smoothly. Chi Nan was initially apprehensive, wondering what kind of identity to give him so as not to arouse his sister’s suspicion. He didn’t expect Fu Shi to nod in greeting upon hearing this.

“Why did you guys come over today?”

Fu Chaoyun asked Fu Shi, but Wen Ci spoke first.

“Oh, Little Fatty in my class was bragging about how his parents took him to see some protected animals transported from Africa, and he mocked me, saying I definitely hadn’t seen them. So I dragged my mom here.”

    “You’re not busy at all.”

Fu Chaoyun teased his sister after hearing Wen Ci’s words. Fu Shi was about to say she wasn’t busy when her phone rang.

Fu Shi talked on the phone for about three minutes, then turned to Fu Chaoyun and said, “Something came up at the company, and I need to go back. Can you take care of Wen Ci for me?”

After speaking, she turned and left. Fu Chaoyun seemed to have anticipated this situation. Every time he said he would take Wen Ci out to play, it always ended up being his responsibility because of company matters.

Fu Chaoyun initially wanted to call out to Fu Shi. If it were just him alone, it would be fine, but he had brought Chi Nan with him today.

“Let’s go, Uncle. I still want to see things.”

Wen Ci tugged on Fu Chaoyun’s sleeve.

Fu Chaoyun looked at Chi Nan apologetically. Chi Nan didn’t mind and also said, “Let’s go.”

As they walked, Chi Nan felt that Wen Ci was constantly staring at him, making him feel a little embarrassed.

“Uncle, I want a drink. Can you buy us two?”

“I knew it wouldn’t be worth bringing you. What do you want to drink?”

Fu Chaoyun pursed his lips and then asked Chi Nan what he wanted.

    “Anything is fine.”

Fu Chaoyun went to buy drinks, leaving only Wen Ci and Chi Nan. Wen Ci, who had been sitting across from him, suddenly sat next to Chi Nan.

“Big brother, you’re the person from Uncle’s phone last time, right?”

Wen Ci asked directly, and Chi Nan couldn’t hide it, so he said yes.

“Big brother, you’re very good-looking. My name is Wen Ci.”

Wen Ci had always been straightforward and didn’t hold back on compliments. She really was a bit like Fu Chaoyun, one being a big rogue, and the other a little one.

    “Thank you.”

    Chi Nan said thank you.

The two were silent for a moment, then Wen Ci took the initiative to speak.

“You’re so good-looking. How did you get to know my uncle? If I had worked harder back then, maybe we would have met.”

Wen Ci felt it was a pity. How could such a good-looking big brother be taken advantage of by her unscrupulous uncle? Wen Ci leaned on the table, feeling deflated and listless.

“It’s not too late for us to know each other now.”

“How could it not be? If Fu Chaoyun hadn’t snatched the phone away, I would have been the one to say hello to you first. Maybe you would have been my boyfriend.”

Wen Ci’s words were full of regret, hating herself for not being more assertive and fighting the unscrupulous capitalist Fu Chaoyun harder. Wen Ci spoke without thinking, but Chi Nan quickly grasped important information from her words.

“Are you saying that you were the one who matched with me back then, not your uncle?”

“Yes, I had a leg injury back then, and he gave me his phone because he was afraid I’d be bored.”

After Wen Ci finished speaking, she didn’t realize anything was wrong and continued to chatter with Chi Nan, not noticing that Chi Nan’s face was turning pale. Instead, she continued, “I remember him saying he was going to uninstall it, but I don’t know why it was still there later. Maybe it was because Lu Cheng told him to interact more with young people, to live a more positive life, reduce stress, and get to know more young people. I guess that’s why he didn’t uninstall it and instead continued to contact Chi Nan-gege. I heard Lu Cheng-gege say a few days ago that his symptoms have improved, so I also need to thank you. If it weren’t for you, my uncle would probably still be in a closed-off state.”

After Wen Ci finished speaking, she noticed that Chi Nan’s face was not right, a little pale, and became worried.

    “What’s wrong?”

    She quickly asked with concern.

    “It’s nothing.”

Chi Nan pretended to be calm. He knew a lot of information from Wen Ci’s words and felt a chill in his bones. Even though it was June, and the sunlight felt warm on his body, at this moment, Chi Nan only felt like he had fallen into an icehouse, his whole body chillingly cold.

“I have something to do, I’ll go first.”

Chi Nan was a little embarrassed. He didn’t know how to face Fu Chaoyun now, nor did he want to see him. He wanted to run away before Fu Chaoyun came back with the drinks. He needed to give himself some time to digest Wen Ci’s words and see if he could find a reason to excuse Fu Chaoyun, because he had completely fallen in love with Fu Chaoyun, not as a fan for a celebrity, but as Chi Nan’s love for Fu Chaoyun.

    “No, hey.”

Wen Ci called out to Chi Nan, wanting to tell him that her uncle’s phone only had him on it, but before she could say the words, Chi Nan had already run off. What would she do when her uncle came back?

Chi Nan stumbled into the crowd and finally hid in the restroom. The forced composure crumbled at this moment, and Chi Nan burst into tears.

“It’s all fake, all fake. Being with me is fake, even matching with me is fake. Everything he did was to treat his illness. He lied to me, sob sob sob.”

Chi Nan sat alone on the toilet lid, covering his mouth, but still unable to control his tears.

“It’s all a lie! Fu Chaoyun, you said you wouldn’t lie to me, you said you were Uncle Fu, you wouldn’t lie to me, you would be with me. And what now? Now you’re just a big liar. Everything you did was just to treat your illness. Even our meeting was probably just a misunderstanding. We shouldn’t have met.”

“I’m so stupid. I even secretly fantasized about the future. I even thought that one day maybe Uncle Fu would become my Fu Chaoyun alone. Fu Chaoyun, you big liar.”

All the moments they spent together flashed through Chi Nan’s mind. The campus walks were fake, Fu Chaoyun was just trying to meet more young people to treat his illness. He was probably the only fool who was deceived by him and thought he was being sincere. The amusement park was fake, that was to continue deceiving him. It was all fake. “My little friend” was also fake. Fu Chaoyun was worthy of being a movie star, acting so flawlessly that he couldn’t see through it.

    Chi Nan, you’re really pathetic.
