Chapter 23

“Uncle Fu, do you think I’m being too noisy?”

Chi Nan himself felt he was talking a bit too much. He noticed that Uncle Fu hadn’t said much, but had been listening to him the whole time. Was he being too loud?

“No, you being a little noisy makes me feel more real.”

Fu Chaoyun wiped his hands with a paper towel and asked Chi Nan if he was done eating. Then, they went to ride the Ferris wheel.

When the Ferris wheel reached its highest point, Chi Nan could see the surrounding scenery. Although he couldn’t get a panoramic view of the city, he could see all of its beauty.

He had a very happy day.

    “Thank you, Fu Chaoyun.”

This was Chi Nan’s true feeling, for Fu Chaoyun, and also for Uncle Fu.

Fu Chaoyun said nothing and ruffled the young man’s hair. When the young man looked at Fu Chaoyun with his watery eyes, Fu Chaoyun really wanted to kiss him. But learning from his past mistakes, Fu Chaoyun decided to take it slow this time. He couldn’t scare the young man. He didn’t know yet if the young man’s feelings for him were the same as his feelings for the young man.

So, before the Ferris wheel descended, Fu Chaoyun only ruffled Chi Nan’s hair and did nothing else. After the Ferris wheel ride, Fu Chaoyun took Chi Nan back. He had originally wanted to arrange a time to go to the zoo, but Chi Nan said to wait a bit. Fu Chaoyun didn’t ask more, told Chi Nan to get a good night’s sleep, and left.

Chi Nan stood at the school gate and watched Fu Chaoyun’s car drive away, feeling a little lost. Why was he unwilling to have Fu Chaoyun fulfill his promise tomorrow? It was because he was afraid that after going to the zoo tomorrow, there would be no Uncle Fu anymore. If this wasn’t real, then let him indulge in it for a few more days.

When Chi Nan walked back to school, he saw many people again, but this time he wasn’t so envious, because Uncle Fu had already walked with him.

Back at school, it was back to normal classes and drawing for commissions. Time passed quickly, and it was already the day Chi Nan and Uncle Fu had agreed on to go to the zoo, which was a Sunday. By this time, Chi Nan was very used to talking to Uncle Fu, but there was still a question that he was very curious about: did a big star like Uncle Fu really not have to film?

“Uncle Fu, you’ve been resting for so long, aren’t you going back to work?”

    Chi Nan asked.

    “Am I annoying you?”

“No, it’s just that I’m afraid if you don’t go back soon, you won’t be able to.”

Fu Chaoyun laughed at Chi Nan’s childish question. He did have some work coming up, but it was tomorrow.

“I have work tomorrow, so Uncle Fu might not be able to spend time with you.”

Chi Nan was a little sad to hear what Uncle Fu said. Uncle Fu was going to work soon, which meant he wouldn’t be able to see Uncle Fu every day, and he wouldn’t be able to call either. Chi Nan felt a little sad.

“It’s not like I’m busy every day, I’ll still have time to rest.”

Fu Chaoyun explained to Chi Nan. Seeing that Chi Nan was a little depressed, he turned on the music in the car. At first, Chi Nan thought the music was nice, but then he realized it was very familiar.

“Uncle Fu, how did you know I like this song?”

    “Guess.”

Chi Nan couldn’t guess, but Fu Chaoyun’s quiet attention to him, knowing his preferences, knowing the music he liked to listen to, made him very happy. It felt like he was remembered in his heart. Chi Nan was secretly delighted, but didn’t show it.

After they arrived at the zoo, the first place they went was to see the elephants. Chi Nan was already a grown-up. Seeing elephants didn’t evoke the same feelings he had as a child, and there wasn’t the same kind of exclamation. It was as if these things were exclusive to children, but not exclusive to him. For him, wanting to see the elephants was probably just an obsession. Seeing them would bring more emotions, and he would think of the Yu family, which disgusted him, while also feeling sorry for his mother.

    “Let’s go.”

Chi Nan glanced at them and then left with Fu Chaoyun. Seeing the elephants was just a moment. Although he was in a bit of a bad mood, happiness ultimately prevailed, especially when he was with Uncle Fu.

The two of them saw many animals. When they saw the pandas, he even said to Fu Chaoyun, “I want to raise one too.”

As a result, Fu Chaoyun said, “You can’t raise a panda, but you can raise a cat and a dog.”

Chi Nan didn’t think too deeply about it at first, but he couldn’t help but imagine that he and Fu Chaoyun would have a home, and they would raise a cat and a dog. Thinking further, he could even imagine what breeds they would be. But wouldn’t that be unrealistic?

When Chi Nan pulled himself out of his fantasy, another voice told Chi Nan: But your feelings for him are real.

Chi Nan wanted to shake his head. He wanted to say that he didn’t like him, but he couldn’t say it. Looking at Fu Chaoyun, he couldn’t say it no matter what. So, when did he start to like Uncle Fu? When Uncle Fu kissed him, did he also like him?

Was it the countless times of companionship in the middle of the night, or walking with him, holding his hand, telling him that he would be there for him? No matter which Uncle Fu it was, he seemed to like him a lot.

Even if he liked Uncle Fu, what would be the result? Chi Nan thought about his future, looking at Fu Chaoyun. How could someone like him, who was born to be in the spotlight, accept someone as ordinary as him?

    “Is it good looking?”

    Fu Chaoyun asked Chi Nan.

    “What?”

    Chi Nan asked in confusion.

“Looking at me for so long, is it good looking? Do you want to get a little closer?”

Fu Chaoyun had noticed the young man’s direct gaze a long time ago. At first, it was okay, and he could pretend not to notice, but later the gaze became stronger and stronger. He was beginning to suspect that the young man wanted to engrave his appearance into his bones, so he responded to Chi Nan.

    “Not good looking.”

Chi Nan said a little stubbornly. He was probably the first person to say that Fu Chaoyun wasn’t good looking. If his fans heard him, they would skin him alive.

“Then you’re good looking, let me take a look too.”

Fu Chaoyun said somewhat shamelessly, and got even closer to Chi Nan, to the point where if Chi Nan turned his head, the two of them would be touching. Yet Fu Chaoyun still didn’t think anything of it.

    “You’re good looking.”

Chi Nan coughed, feeling really embarrassed, especially since Fu Chaoyun was so close to him just now, so close that Chi Nan could feel Fu Chaoyun’s breath, small puffs of fog spraying on Chi Nan’s face, and then dissipating.

Fu Chaoyun was about to say something when he heard a crisp voice call out “Uncle.”

    “Uncle.”

It was called again. Fu Chaoyun and Chi Nan turned their heads. After turning his head, Fu Chaoyun saw his niece and wanted to cry a little. Why did they have to meet at this time? And why did his sister bring Wen Ci when she was so busy?

Fu Shi walked over with Wen Ci. The four of them faced each other. Chi Nan heard the little girl call him “Uncle” and remembered when he talked with Uncle Fu before, he did hear a little girl’s voice.
